Day 1 – Chennai: The Cultural Heart of Tamil Nadu

Begin your journey in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu and an important cultural centre of South India. After breakfast, start with a visit to Kapaleeshwarar Temple, famous for its colourful Dravidian architecture and traditional atmosphere. Continue to Fort St. George, an important historical landmark that reflects Chennai’s colonial past.

After lunch, visit San Thome Basilica, followed by a leisurely walk along Marina Beach. The evening can be spent exploring local markets and tasting traditional Tamil food such as dosa, idli, sambar and filter coffee.

Day 2 – Chennai → Mahabalipuram → Pondicherry

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and travel south along the scenic East Coast Road to Mahabalipuram (Mamallapuram).

Mahabalipuram is renowned for its ancient Pallava monuments and exceptional stone carvings. Explore the Shore TemplePancha Rathas and Arjuna’s Penance. Take time to appreciate the architecture and enjoy the coastal surroundings.

After lunch, continue to Pondicherry (Puducherry). After checking into the hotel, explore the charming French Quarter, known for its colonial buildings, tree-lined streets and cafés. In the evening, enjoy a peaceful walk along the Promenade and watch the sunset.

Day 3 – Pondicherry → Kanchipuram → Chennai

Start the morning with breakfast and visit the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, followed by some free time in Pondicherry’s French Quarter.

Later, depart for Kanchipuram, one of Tamil Nadu’s most historic temple cities. Known as the “City of Thousand Temples,” Kanchipuram is famous for its magnificent Dravidian temples and traditional silk sarees.

Visit Kailasanathar Temple and Ekambareswarar Temple, then enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, explore the local silk-weaving tradition and, if desired, purchase a traditional Kanchipuram silk saree or other handicrafts.

Continue to Chennai in the evening and check into your hotel.

Day 4 – Chennai: Culture, Leisure and Departure

After breakfast, spend your final morning exploring the traditional culture of South India. Visit DakshinaChitra, a cultural centre that showcases traditional architecture, crafts and lifestyles from different parts of South India.

If your departure schedule permits, make a short visit to Muttukadu for a relaxing boating experience. After lunch, return to Chennai and transfer to Chennai International Airport or the railway station for your onward journey.
