Orchha

In Madhya Pradesh, Orchha is a mediaeval town famed for its opulent palaces and finely carved temples. It is situated on the banks of the Betwa River. The city of palaces is well-known for its classic frescos, mural paintings, and Chhatris (cenotaphs) that were built to honour the Bundela emperors. Tourists from all over the world are enchanted by Orchha’s old-world charm.

Literally meaning “a secret location,” Orchha was established in 1501 by a Bundela Rajput Raja. It served as the seat of government for the Bundelas, one of the most mighty dynasties to ever rule India. Ram Raja Temple, the only place where Lord Ram is revered as both a Deity and a king, Laxmi Narayan Temple, recognised for its distinctive construction that combines a fort and a temple, and the Jahangir Mahal are some of the top attractions in Orchha (built in hour of Mughal emperor Jahangir). Photographers will adore Orchha’s palaces and temples’ mediaeval architecture.
