Vijay Stambh, also known as the Tower of Victory, is one of Rajasthan’s lesser-known monuments, as it has not received the attention it deserves. An observer’s awe is evoked just by looking at it. The history of Vijay Stambh is fascinating in and of itself. The building was built between 1442 and 1449 in honour of Rana Kumbha’s victory over Mahmud Khalji and is the pride of Chittorgarh or Chittor Fort. The nine-story tower, which rises to a height of over 35 metres, is certainly one of, if not the most famous, elements of Chittorgarh Fort.

Tower of Victory

A 14-meter-wide square platform supports the nine-meter-wide tower. It’s made of red sandstone, with some white marble thrown in for good measure. The monument is adorned with finely sculpted Hindu deity figurines. Slabs etched with the Chittorgarh rulers’ lineage may be found on the uppermost story. The Tower of Victory is very magnificent. The building’s apertures and balconies are unique to each storey. The 157 steps leading to the tower’s terrace are one of the tower’s other notable features. From the summit, you may get spectacular views of the region. The public, however, does not have access to it.

The area around Vijay Stambh is also dotted with several magnificent monuments. Among these is Samiddhesvara Temple, which is dedicated to Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu. Kirti Stambh, the inspiration behind Vijay Stambh, is another admired feature of the fortress. This 22-metre tall tower was built by a Jain merchant named Jeeja Bhagerwala between 1179 and 1191 to celebrate the glory of Jainism.
